Adoptables

  • KCREGAP, and many greyhound rescue groups around the country, have periods where we have saved a number of older adult greyhounds. They come to us from many different sources, some for legitimate reasons; some because they have been breeding stock; and some come from shelters because people's lifestyle's have changed, they have not considered their pets, and as the dogs become inconvenient, they have been dumped. All of these precious babies desperately need homes. They have many years of unconditional love to give families. Although it is reasonable to be concerned that you may not have them as long as a younger grey, there are never any guarantees. We have had two year olds die of unforeseen illnesses. These guys desperately need a chance. Another unfortunate side effect is that they take so much longer to place than a younger dog, our program cannot bring in those dogs that are ultimately being destroyed because our foster homes and kennel are full of mature greyhounds waiting to be chosen. The older dogs typically go into a home with very little transitional problems and settle in like they have been there all their lives and are eternally grateful for a soft spot to curl up on and share your love and affection!
